Pemayangste monastery is less than a kilometre from Pelling, while a 40 minute walk on the hill opposite the monastery takes you to Sanga Choling monastery built in 1697, one of the first in the state. MEGHALAYA:
Once the capital of the Raj-era Assam Province, Shillong today is the state capital of the beautiful North-East Indian state of Meghalaya. This region, literally called ‘The Abode of the Clouds’ has an abundance of geological curiosities that attract a stream of visitors from around the world; Shillong with its many natural and man-made attractions, is the veritable jewel in this crown of hills.
The Heritage Club, Tripura Castle, Shillong:
Tripura Castle was built in the early 1920’s by the then Maharaja of Tripura who came to Shillong and fell in love with the place. It became the summer retreat for the Royal Family of the Manikya dynasty.
Today the main palace is the home to the current head of the Manikya dynasty, Maharaja Pradyot Bikram Kishore Debbarma, who also oversees the hotel.
